Amma's
Kitchen.

South Indian home cooking, run out of a small kitchen in Ancoats for nearly fifty years. Everything is made fresh each morning to my grandmother's recipes — right down to the ghee we roast the dosa in.

My Kitchen

My grandmother
started this in 1978.

She emigrated from Kochi in the sixties, cooked her way through winter after winter of a city that had never seen a curry leaf, and opened this kitchen the year I was born.

Nearly fifty years later, the recipes haven't moved. The batter still rests overnight. The chutneys are still ground each morning. I add a dish or two every few years — but I wouldn't dare change hers.

Warm words.
warmer plates.

The masala dosa alone is worth the trip. Priya's kitchen is the closest thing to my mum's I've eaten outside Kerala.

Warm, unfussy, generous. The kind of Sunday-lunch spot every neighbourhood should have.
